Overarching Concept for the Lesson/Unit: Juxtaposition

Grade Level: 5

 

Essential Questions: 

Is craft art? What changes craft objects into art objects? What strategies can we use to develop ideas to create works of art

 

Standards:

VA5.CR.1 Engage in the creative process to generate and visualize ideas by using subject matter and symbols to communicate meaning.

1. Utilize multiple approaches to plan works of art, incorporating imaginative ideas, universal themes, and symbolic images.

2. Apply available resources, tools, and technologies to investigate personal ideas through the process of making works of art.

3. Produce multiple prototypes in the planning stages for a work of art (e.g. sketches, 3D models).

VA5.CR.4 Understand and apply media, techniques, processes, and concepts of three- dimensional works of art.

1. Create works of art using traditional and/or contemporary craft methods (e.g. weaving, stitchery, puppetry, batik, jewelry, book arts).

VA5.CN.3 Develop life skills through the study and production of art (e.g. collaboration, creativity, critical thinking, communication).

 

Objectives: 

Students can communicate their ideas through the generation of concepts for the application into a work of art. Students can plan for the execution of a 3D work of art using stitching techniques. Students can demonstrate creativity and critical thinking through the production of a plan, and justify their choices.
