Overarching Concept for the Lesson/Unit: Electrifying Fashion

Grade Level: 3

What is a hat?  What can a hat do?  What purposes of a hat can you think of?  What can a hat be made of?

VA:Re7.1.3 - Speculate about processes an artist uses to create a work of art.

S5P2. - Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information to investigate electricity.

b. Design a complete, simple electric circuit, and explain all necessary components.

 

Objectives: 

Students will create a sculptural hat primarily made of paper and with the basic shape of a bird.  Onto this hat, students will attach mixed media materials.  Students will also design and assemble a circuit that will light LEDs on the hat.
