Artist Statement
My art practice is based on the belief that there is something to learn with every mark. I am very fascinated with process and I enjoy thinking about structure of all types. Surface structure, the structure of a plant, the structure of an idea, societal structure, and irregular/impossible structure are all themes that can be found in my work. In addition, I am studying the meditative qualities of participating in art making of tedium; patterns, small marks, rules, and iterations. Whether this meditation results in time to think, anxiety control, or even contentment in “finally completing” are all aspects of it that I’m interested in figuring out. To this end, I have started combining drawing with the textile arts as part of the iterations, as a sort of form of slow art.
